My first Barbie in orange dress is likely from mid 1960s. She has the original black and white bathing suit. I have clothes with the original Barbie logo. She is in good condition. Her hair is a cap that can be removed. The second Barbie is likely around 10 to 15 years old with more modern clothes.
Both Barbies are 12 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches across shoulders.
Hi Patricia,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Barbie was important—and remains influential—for several cultural, social, and economic reasons. Introduced in 1959, Barbie was one of the first mass-produced dolls in the U.S. that was not a baby or child. This allowed children, especially girls, to imagine futures as adults. She was marketed as a woman with her own identity, aspirations, and independence—a notable shift from traditional gender roles of the time.
The market for Barbie has always been hot but saw a resurgence in 2023 when the film was released.
Values for your dolls align with what other models of comparable vintage, condition and extent of accessories are selling for at auction recently. Note that dolls that remain in their original packaging and have not been played with usually bring three-figure (sometimes four-figure prices).
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
