This piece was made by the same maker as the French hutch and buffet that I have posted. The relief carvings appear to be of conquistadors or maybe Roman soldiers?
This item was made around the turn of the century in France and shipped to the US in the 1960s.
This is an antique circa 1900 hand carved oak buffet server that was purportedly built by a French furniture craftsman. It is late Victorian, done in the Renaissance Revival style and in the category of Arts & Crafts which was a return to hand crafting furniture and wares. The bas-relief cameo profiles are the goddesses of war and the hunt, Athena (Minerva) and Artemis (Diana). The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
