Oak ice box 41"H x 17"D x 34"W Came from a barn in South Dakota in the 1960's. Refinished by cutting off rotted legs, removing nickel from hardware to expose brass, installing glass shelves, and lined with felt. Photos show we still have original shelves and ice block holder. Makes an excellent bar, but can easily be restored to original ice box use.
Came from a barn in South Dakota in the 1960's.
This is an antique, early 20th century, about 1900, ice box in oak wood. Prior to the household refrigerator, perishable goods were placed in an ice box in the home; they were usually made of wood and lined with tin or zinc and an ice block would be placed inside to keep the interior chilled. This oak ice box has gone through some modifications to convert it into a cocktail bar. Changes include removing the feet or legs at the bottom due to their being rotted out, exposing the brass surface on the hardware, removing metal shelves to add glass shelves and adding a felt bottom interior. The original shelves have been maintained. There are no manufacturers names on this to indicate the maker. The estimate factors in the conversion and leg loss and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
No manufacturer's name on the hardware
Please add a photo of the front of this with the doors shut and also check the brass hardware on the front for a manufacturer's name embossed on it.
