What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry, and I apologize for the delay. This is a double barrel percussion shotgun muzzleloader from the mid 1800s. It was made by D.M. Virney in Burlington Virginia. The barrels were likely made in Connecticut, or imported from England. It was common practice in this era for individual gunsmiths to source certain components, such as barrels and locks, and assemble a new gun themselves. They would then put their name on the address line and sell it through their shop. This particular piece is in distressed condition, with active rust present on the majority of the metal, and in the flash holes. Given the condition of this piece, and completed auctions of similar items, a fair market estimation is 150-175 dollars. Please reach out with any questions.
