Description

I don’t know anything about it. I would like to know about it. It belonged to my father in law and I inherited it after my husband passed away last year.

What does this mean?

Hello, this item is an antique American Harrington & Richardson top-break double-action revolver, manufactured in Worcester, Massachusetts, and most likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The photographs show the characteristic hinged-frame action with automatic extraction, long barrel, exposed hammer, fluted cylinder, and molded hard-rubber grips with decorative motifs. The visible serial number appears to read 82589, while the frame marking identifies H&R and its Worcester manufacture. The exact model, caliber, and production date cannot be confirmed from these photographs alone, although the configuration is consistent with one of H&R’s large-frame Automatic Ejecting revolvers, which were produced in several variations and calibers around the turn of the century. The revolver appears substantially complete and retains considerable dark finish, although there is visible age-related finish loss, oxidation, handling wear, and surface patination.

Harrington & Richardson produced these revolvers in considerable numbers, so most standard examples remain relatively accessible on the American collector market. Value depends on the exact model and caliber, mechanical condition, originality of the finish and grips, bore condition, and whether the serial and assembly numbers correspond. The inherited family history is useful context but does not by itself add a significant provenance premium. Based on the photographs and assuming the revolver is an original period H&R example in functional or generally sound mechanical condition, I would place it within the following range. A hands-on firearms inspection could refine the identification and confirm mechanical condition before sale or insurance.
