Probably wool. I’ve done research but have been unable to identify the type. It is soft and in excellent condition.

Hello Jenny,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is a Turkman Bokhara Style Entirely Hand Knotted Rug from Uzbekistan. The piece dates back to the period from 1995 to 2001. The piece is classically decorated with traditional colour palette of Turkoman Rugs but with a slightly regional pattern. The piece was not centrally decorated with a central medallion, instead it was decorated with continuous patterns through the central area. This pattern also shows some sun depictions that we usually see in classical Bokhara Rugs. The piece's central area was decorated on a red base while the borders were decorated on a white base. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The piece is in good condition with small signs of use.
Entirely hand knotted.
Dimensions: 6 Feet by 4 Feet
Condition: The piece is in good condition with small signs of use.
Provenance: This was purchased at a market in Tashkent Uzbekistan by the current owner's mother-in-law in 2001.
Heavily decorated by traditional Uzbek patterns.
