Army sword
Best as I can tell it’s Japanese army sword that my uncle bought back from ww2, has what looks like a copper handle an a metal sheath. There is what appears to be Japanese writing on the tang underneath the handle, the sheath does have a metal loop for carrying.
While in the sheath it’s 38 an 1/2 inches. Actual blade length is 27 an 1/4 inches

The presented object appears to be a Japanese "Shin Gunto" Type 94 sword of a member of the Imperial Japanese Army in the WWII period. This Shin Gunto which means "new military sword" was designed in memory of the Japanese sword tradition and was used between 1935 and 1945 for the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy. Sometimes older blades were used in this case we have a quite simple steel blade with an actor stamp which identifies this sword for the Japanese Navy. Such swords came as trophies of GIs after WWII in high numbers to the United States.
This piece is in medium condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 350 to 700 USD.
