Lamp is vintage from the 1950s or 1960s. I believe the black ball is ceramic, and the"space age" decorations are brass. The lamp was rewired at one point, and the fiberglass shade is a reproduction, but i believe built on the wire frame of the original. I've never seen one of these lamps before either; it was typical for these lamps to have been made in pairs.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage ceramic and brass "Sputnik" table lamp
American or European, circa 1950s-60s
A reproduction two-tiered fiberglass shade raised over 6 rays issuing from a black glazed ceramic orb with star decoration raised on four brass feet over a black ceramic(?) base on wooden plinth foot. Unmarked.
31 inches overall height; diameter of base 8 inches; diameter of shade: 14 inches
CONDITION: With a reproduction fiberglass shade but otherwise this lamp appears to be in good condition.
PROVENANCE: Acquired at a garage/yard sale
