Tumbaga Gold Seated Woman
14 April 2026
Description

This gold colored statue depicts a nude woman seated on a small stool. She's holding a vase in each hand, and an object that appears to be a vase sits atop her head. Lying flat and loosely draped around her neck is a wide necklace. Decorative bracelets adorn her wrists, forearms, ankles, and below each knee. On the backside, at the base of the vase atop her head, a loop is attached, as if the object can be worn or suspended. Is this a pre-Columbian artifact, made from a gold-copper alloy known as tumbaga?
