1700 paintin of our lady las lajas unsigned in original frame
16x19
Hello, this item is a devotional oil painting in the style of the Cuzco School, depicting the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child flanked by kneeling saints, most likely Saint Dominic and Saint Francis. Based on the visible brushwork, palette, simplified facial modeling, and the commercial stretcher and backing materials, this example does not date to the 17th or 18th century colonial period. Instead, it aligns with later devotional export paintings produced in Peru during the late 19th to mid 20th century, when workshops in Cusco continued to reproduce colonial religious compositions for the tourist and ecclesiastical market. The carved wooden frame appears consistent with this later period as well, showing decorative but machine assisted carving rather than hand carved colonial construction.
Later devotional workshop examples such as this are much more common and typically trade in the secondary market between $300 and $900 USD. Considering the visible surface wear, craquelure, darkening varnish, and overall decorative condition, a realistic current market value would fall in the range of $400 to $700 USD.
I think the value is on the low side, which is less than the price for repair. Will require a second appraisal. Will donate to charity.
Thanks
