Found in house purchased 18 yrs ago. Magnet will stick to blade but not to hilt, possibly brass. No identifying marks that I can see. Blade is 34” long, entire length is 40”. Across hilt bar is 8”. Blade has Raised floral scrollwork on about half the blade length near the top. Tip is more rounded than pointed perhaps for thrusting.

Dear Diann,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a rapier sword with a brass basket hilt, an iron blade, and a total length of 40 inches. This piece was made as a decoration weapon or a theater requisite in the late 19th or more probable in the 20th century.
This piece is in bad condition and there is rust on the blade visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 10 to 20 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
