It appears to be a mix of bronze/brass over iron. I can tell this because it has cracks in it where it appears someone dropped it. Everything is still attached in one solid piece, just cracks and fissures. It is 14inches long, 10 inches tall (to the top of the ears) and 4.5 inches wide at the widest part of the head. It is 10.2 lbs (this guy is HEAVY).
I found this at a Goodwill store in Newnan, Ga, so I don't know anything about its history. In fact, if you somehow find anything on that, that would be just as valuable as the financial valuation itself - I'm very curious about his past.
Dear Kelly,
Thank you for your request. The apprised object is a statue of a lion with the measurements of 10 x 14 x 4,5 inches. It is a lost wax cast sculpture made out of brass or bronze or similar non-ferrous metal. The lion shows the style and characteristics of the Benin Bronzes. This piece was made in Benin in the 20th century because of the surface of the bronze and the details of the stylistics.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 150 to 300 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
