Hi Bob,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The market for black dolls has been fairly strong in recent months, and there has been a re-examination of the form in museum exhibitions and articles (https://www.antiquesandthearts.com/black-dolls-at-the-new-york-historical-society/). They are often stereotypical and usually it isn't known who made them; almost all are assumed to be American.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage American Black cloth doll
early 20th Century
depicting a black male figure with red cap, short curly hair, light blue shirt, navy trousers with red suspenders, red shoes, sewn features.
16 inches tall
CONDITION: appears to be in good condition commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: inherited, possibly originally acquired at auction
$800-1,200*
