Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a chinese armoire, made of southern elmwood, showing a beautiful grain, brass hinges, brass drawer pulls and a round brass escutechon. Due to the good supply of antique and vintage furniture from China the current market value is rather low. This will change as soon the modernisation in China has reached the last village. The estimate is based on auction results of similar furniture actually sold at auction. ( I couldn´t help noticing the beautiful portrait in the background)
Thank you for the appraisal. I think now I will hold on to it for a few years! Incidentally, the painting in the back is (a copy) by Vigee LeBrun, titled The Boy in the Red Coat. It has hung in my parents living room and mine for well over 60 years. The original is in the Wallace Gallery in London. I don't know the story of the other painting, but want to find out, to see if that is worth trying to sell.
