Finely crafted old European choir bench, measuring 23" by 68" by 71" tall. Extensive fine wooden inlays in contrasting color. Bench opens to reveal storage. Excellent condition.
This choir bench has been in the family for at least four generations. It was in my great grandfather's "gilded age" 5th Ave. mansion (or his Long Island estate) until 1939, after which point it was moved to Southern California and Arizona. He had a large number of valuable antiques, many of which he sold during the depression through Parke-Bernet auctions (examples: https://archive.org/details/finefrenchfurnit00park/page/n3; https://archive.org/details/englishamericanf00park_2/page/n5)
