Hello, this item is an original Colt Model 1860 Army percussion revolver in .44 caliber, produced for the civilian market in the early 1860s. The serial number 6229 places manufacture firmly within the early production period of this model, consistent with pre or early Civil War era output. The revolver displays standard Colt 1860 Army features, including the round barrel profile, creeping loading lever, and rebated cylinder. The absence of military acceptance stamps or inspector cartouches confirms civilian sale rather than U.S. government issue. Markings including “COLTS PATENT” and patent date references are correct for the model, and the serial numbers appear matching on visible components, supporting originality despite later surface intervention.
Condition reflects significant age and handling, with evidence of past polishing that has softened edges and reduced surface definition. Original cylinder scene engraving remains faintly visible, which is common on examples that have seen cleaning or refinishing over time. Metal surfaces show uniform wear and patina, with no visible structural cracks or major mechanical losses in the provided images. The wooden grip appears original, with honest wear consistent with age. Based on current market data for early serial number civilian Colt 1860 Army revolvers in polished but complete condition, the fair market and insurance value is approximately USD 3,500 to USD 5,000.
