Navel scene engraved, says: Engraved by W L Ormshy New York. Full length: 13in
Handed down by grandfather.
Dear Samantha,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a Colt Model 1851 36 cal single action Navy revolver with an octagonal barrel. This revolver has the serial number 6968 which would date this piece into the year 1851. The cylinder is decorated with an engraved Naval engagement scene is in a stupendous good condition which could be a hint for a later produced piece and a later added serial number. In my opinion, this revolver is a later replica especially because of the finish, the condition of the wood, and the screws.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 200 to 400 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
