Dear Tara,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload a few better images of the back of the head so I can see any possible marks.
Thanks
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a lovely vintage doll. Such vintage toys are being offered at auction on a regular basis. The doll was made in the 1900s.
When appraising dolls the condition of the head is very important as it must be without hairlines, cracks or chips in order to obtain a good price. The body and limbs are most often made of papermache, wood and a kind of composition. But in this case I believe the body has been repaired with a kind of cloth/stocking. The condition of the head does not appear to be very good, there are some significant cracks around the eyes and the body/limbs too. The face appears to have had some repainting done around the eyes. Most doll companies and manufacturer marked the dolls on the back of the head with initials, a logo or a number, however this does not seem to be the case with your doll, which makes it hard to tell who the maker may have been.
Unfortunately there are not that many doll collectors today which affects the price in a negative direction.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online antique toys auction, where I believe the doll has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to your grandmother's doll. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
Wonderful! She's actually wearing a pair of tights--her legs are the same material as her arms, but in better shape (they still have cracks though). I'm very happy to sell her, so that's not an issue! Thanks so much.
Thanks! I added more pictures.
