Dear Walter Balan,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is a 1999 mixed media painting on canvas titled "Cool Kat" by Silvio Gayton (Cuban, born 1938). It is signed to the lower right corner and attributed to the verso. "Cool Kat" is an expressionist style figural composition of a saxophone player. From the photographs provided, the work appears to be in good condition with no significant issues to note.
Silvio Gayton was born in Havana, and studied at the National School of Fine Art San Alejandro. After his studies, Gayton moved to Venezuela, then Spain, then settled in the United States. His artistic oeuvre does not land specifically in one genre or style, however his modernist roots—such as Pablo Picasso and Wifredo Lam—are apparent. Gayton does not have an extensive sales record with only four works previously sold on the market, therefore buyer preferences of the artist's practice, or current sales trends can't be analyzed. Instead, the Fair Market Value of this work considered the previous sales and general market activity of Cuban and Cuban-American artists of the same time period. With these statistics in mind, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $500 and $1000.
Thank you for your appraisal submission. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.
Kind regards,
