What does this mean?

Dear Michael,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be a Masonic sword made by D.B. Howell & Co in New York. Howell offered this often used symbolic sword in a catalog with options of the material and quality. This piece was made at the end of the last third of the 19th century. The scabbard appears to be personalized with a monogram of the name of the owner or the name of the Masonic Lodge.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 60 to 120 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg
