What does this mean?

Dear Producer Leek,

Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is an acrylic painting on canvas. The measurements provided seem to be incorrect as the work is not a square, it is likely 32 x 22 inches. The verso features the title, date, and signature, as well as a gallery label. "Une Nature Morte" was painted in 1989 by Darryl Hughto (American, born 1943). As the title suggests, the work depicts a near-abstraction floral still life. From the images provided, the work appears to be in good condition.

Darryl Hughto was born in New York, and studied studio art at Suny College. Afterwards he obtained his MFA at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He is most recognized for his colorful abstract works, and during his later career he experimented with genre scenes, still lifes, and nudes. The subject work's depicting of a still life therefore falls into the later trajectory of Hughto's oeuvre.

Hughto has a strong art market record, and his works continue to sell as recent as October 2024. Despite the works' consistency towards abstraction, sales prices vary based on medium, and his paintings commonly sell much higher than his prints, and his pure abstractions remain the highest selling. We estimated the Fair Market value of this work by considering medium, composition, year, and size, and estimate the FMV between $1000 and $2000.

Thank you for your submission. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.

Kind regards,
Charlotte B.

As seen in these few examples, paintings sell significantly higher than original prints with the highest being pure abstractions.
