Hi Christopher,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The cabinet with glass would almost certainly have been meant to be filled with breakables and not, therefore, fitted with casters (wheels) on the bottoms of the feet. The writing doesn't mean anything to me; it was probably some sort of internal code for a pattern or stock or maker and does not impact the value in any way.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Colonial Revival style oak dining room set
American or European, first half 20th Century
Comprising:
A sideboard, 40 inches high, 68 inches long, 22 inches deep, marked below, on casters (CAD $500-800)
A demi-glazed (glass) china cabinet, 61 inches high, 38 inches wide, 14 inches deep, no casters (CAD $500-800)
A dining table with crank locking mechanism, 30 inches high, 60 inches long (72 inches extended), 42 inches wide (CAD $700-1,000)
A set of six chairs with tapestry upholstery (comprising one armchair and five side chairs), 41 inches tall overall, seat approximately 18 by 17 inches, with straw fill. (CAD $600-900)
CONDITION: not examined in person but appears to be in used/worn condition. Client represents the table has been refinished.
PROVENANCE: inherited
CAD $2,000-3,500*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
They needed refinishing so I bought another set of chairs that do not match the set
Thanks, Christopher, you're all set.
Hi! Thank you again.
Ok here we go.
The table is refinished. It’s 60 inches long or 72 with leaf. 30H and 42W. Underneath it has a crank system to lock the table together.
The side piece board is 68L x 22W x 40H. It has the same markings and writing as the underneath of chairs
The china cabinet is 38L x 14W x 61H. The door is glass inset. Could not find any markings. It does not appears to have the same bulbs on the legs at bottoms. Does this matter?
The chairs are 41H. The seat is roughly 18x17
I did take one of the seat upholstery off. They had metal pins all the way down the back. The stuffing look likes like straw.
I will send more pictures.
Does the writing mean anything?
Thanks, Christopher, I think I incorporated all of your notes and comments. Let me know if you have any other questions; otherwise, you're all set.
