I don't know much about it so I'm hoping you can fill me in. I believe it is oil on canvas by Eleonore Guinther. No title or other identifying marks that I can see. It has a man strolling down a dirt path with a walking stick and two women on an island in a stream working. Great colors.
31.5 inches by 27.75 inches in frame with 23.5 inches by 19.5 inches showing
Dear Gary Anderson,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. This work is an oil painting on canvas by Eleonore (Guinther) Gagel (German, born 1947). It depicts a wooden landscape trail with figures on a river bank and another walking down the path. The work is in fair condition with minor discoloration to the surface, and staining to the top margin above the trees. It measures 31.5 x 27.75 inches in frame.
According to a biography attached to multiple works, Eleonore Gagel studied painting as an apprentice under her father Friedrich Karopka-Brantler who was a regionally-known landscape painter. Like her father, Gagel took on the practice of landscape and bucolic scenes, often featuring figures taking part in ordinary outdoor activity. By the age of 20, her works were already frequenting the art market. Upon marrying fellow artist Bernd Gagel, Eleonore Gagel began to sign her works with a hyphenated surname as well as "Eli Gagel," therefore signaling that this specific painting is one of many earlier works.
Gagel has a significant auction record with similar landscape scenes garnering the most demand. Based on composition and size comparisons, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this painting between $200 and $500.
