This is a vintage, early to mid 20th century, 4' tall pot metal and polychromed, or color painted, casting of the 1888 bronze sculpture by French sculptor Emile Louis Picault (1833 - 1915). The figural grouping is of Perseus after he has beheaded Medusa from which the flying horse, Pegasus, sprung forth from her after her demise. Picaut had entered the work in the 1888 Salon Beaux Arts in Paris. This is a later 20th century spelter metal re-casting and not a bronze original from the late 19th century. This is in fair condition with polychrome surface loss. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
