Description

Flint Lock antique rifle circa 1770s to 1800s. Rifle is about 60 inches long and back of the stock is 4.5 inches wide. The barrel is smooth bore. Bought in the 1970s in the Vermont/New Hampshire area by my parents. They were told it dates back to the American Revolutionary War and it is most likely a foreign made rifle. There are no markings of the rifle of the manufacturer. Stock has wear on it. The trigger mechanism is frozen. Would say it is in "fair" condition for it's age. Rifle was hung over the doorway since it was bought. Never fired and I don't know if I would want to try shooting it due to it's age

Hello Robert,

This item is a Flint Lock antique rifle dating back to the late 18th to early 19th century, with a rich history that spans the American Revolutionary War era. Measuring approximately 60 inches in length, this rifle features a smoothbore barrel and a back stock width of 4.5 inches.

Purchased in the 1970s in the Vermont/New Hampshire area, this rifle has been passed down through generations and carries with it a story of its origins. While the exact manufacturer remains unknown, it is believed to be of foreign make, possibly crafted in Europe and brought to America during a time of significant political and military upheaval.

The absence of markings on the rifle adds to its mystique, leaving room for speculation about its journey and previous owners. Despite showing signs of wear, including a frozen trigger mechanism and wear on the stock, this rifle remains a tangible link to the past, offering a glimpse into the weaponry used during pivotal moments in history.
