Foot Artillery Sword
This sword is made of, I think, two different types of metal. It is 24.5 inches long (from tip to the bottom of the hilt) and the hilt is about 4 inches across (pictured). It has a sheath that appears to be leather and it has the engraving of an eagle on a branch at the base of the handle. It also has a few things stamped into the metal. At the base of the blade on one side it says "US 1855" and on the other side it says--I can't make out all the letters, but something like "AMES M_CGG CHICOPEE". It also has two sets of initials carved into the hilt; one that says "A.D.K." and another below it, slightly larger and in cursive, that says "RHKW."
My uncle was an antique gun collector and he also collected a few swords and other militaria as well. He left me this and a few other items when he passed away.

The presented object appears to be a US M1840 Ames Artillery Foot Sword made by Ames and dated 1855. This piece was made out of steel and brass.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided. The leather scabbard is a later addition.
A fair market estimation would be between 200 to 400 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
