Traditional German painting of Swedish Alps. Has "4 Lois Heiuzl" just above the artist name. Not able to make out artist name. Approximate size is 24"X32"
Don't know much. Purchased at estate sale and family was telling story of their grandmother bringing it over here from Germany when she moved across the pond to the U.S.
Dear Aaron,
Thank you for your contacting Mearto with your appraisal enquiry.
The item presented appears to be a traditional oil painting of the Alps, possibly from the end of the 19th century or beginning of the 20th century. It measures 24 (h) x 32 (w) inches. The work is signed on the lower left by the artist. The work appears to be in excellent condition overall.
Unfortunately, I had some trouble deciphering the artist's signature. I've tried many variations, such as Lois Heinzl/ Heiunzl, but without success, I am afraid. The word below the signature seems to correspond to "Muenchen" (Munich, Germany), where this work has probably been executed.
Therefore, the estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and similar landscape paintings without artist attribution, dating from the 1880s to the 1920s. The current condition (based on photographs provided) has been taken into consideration when determining the estimate.
Please note that once pieces bought at auction are in galleries, they are usually a minimum of two to three times the price paid at auction. I hope this assists you.
Best regards,
Karine
