Guyon dancer charcoal. Great condition
22 inches X 22 inches
Hello Kathy,
Thank you very much for submitting your artwork for an appraisal and for your patience!
The presented object appears to be an oil on board (?) painting, which depicts a ballerina dancer holding a fan. We see her reflection from behind in a mirror. The work measures approximately 22 x 22 inches, is framed and looks to be in excellent condition. It is signed "Guyon" in the bottom right corner, which is almost certainly the signature of Michel Guyon (French, born 1947).
Guyon was educated at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he has been active as a professional artist for many decades. The subject matter of his paintings -- dancers and other performers -- are drawn from his experience behind the stage, creating innovative set designs. One of his most acclaimed works was for the production of "Carmen" at the Opéra Bastille in Paris, where his use of bold colors and dynamic structures brought a modern sensibility to the classic opera.
Works by this artist have come up at auction in recent years, however the demand does not seem to be particularly high. I would estimate the current fair market value of your painting between $100 and $200, though retail and asking prices may vary.
If you have any questions about my appraisal, please let me know in the comments section below. Thank you again for your submission and I hope that you have a wonderful day!
Kind regards,
Anne
