Hand Carved Rocking Seahorse
12 May 2025
Description

My piece is a rocking seahorse that I created myself out of solid mahogany lumber. I used a real seahorse that was about four inches tall for model to carve from. the fish rockers are a totally made up fish that would work for this project. there are several thousand scales carved into each rocker. the eyes are taxidermy glass eyes. this is a new piece that I finished a couple weeks ago that I would like to have appraised to determine a selling price for marketing purposes.

Dimensions

The piece is 46 inches long, 32 inches tall, and 20inches wide

Hi Delia,
As far as formal training under some great icon in the art world, I have none. I have been drawing, building, carving, etc. since I was a young kid. I have been influenced by old timers in an old fishing town that were just like me…. A nobody with a God given gift to do what I do.
I do not study art , or even know any artist to speak of!

Thank you for your for taking a look at my project. You are basically saying that my project is not even worth the amount of materials that I have in it which is just under six hundred dollars! I have an excess of three hundred hours labor which you are saying is worth less than nothing!
Wow!

Clay,
Unfortunately, the market these days truly does not value as it should the time and experience of craftspeople - that's the simple if hard reality. If you're using our platform to sell this, please let me know what you'd like me to list as the asking price and I'll change it.
