Hummel Boy with Camera
Figurine is a boy kneeling position with knees up and looking through a camera on a tripod with a dachshund dog sitting underneath the camera and looking up. The boy is wearing dark shorts and a polkadot kerchief around his neck. (There is a fine crack around his neck that does not go all the way around so it seems to be a age-related crack.) The base is stamped with M. I. Hummel. The underside says Goebel W. Germany, 178, dated 1948.
Height: 4 and 3/4 inches. Width at the widest part of oval base is 3 and 7/8 inches.
The item is inherited and was purchased by my mother who was born and lived in Europe. She married during WWll and emigrated to the states at the end of the war in 1945. The item is dated 1948 so she was here at that time and most probably purchased in New York where we lived. I remember how much she loved her Hummel figurines and often pointed them out to visitors. Don’t know what happened to the other figurines.

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, porcelain quality and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Painted Goebel and Hummel Figurine depicting a Boy Behind the Camera. The piece dates back to the period form 1979-1990. The mark underneath the piece was used between the suggested periods. The piece is commonly named as "The Photographer Boy". As usual to Hummel Figurines, we can see a romantised early 20th century scene. A dachshund dog under the camera was also depicted in brown colour. The boy wears a red scarf and has a surprised apperance to imitate the impressiveness of the cameras at the time. The piece has a "M. J. Hummel" sign at the base. The piece has serial number of "178" and "1948", these does not indicate any age but only representing the model number and the piece's production number. Glazing cracks are visible on the base. The piece is in generally good condition with a crack on the neck of the boy.
Entirely hand painted.
Dimensions: 4 3/4 Inches High by 3 7/8 Inches Wide at the base.
