This is the smaller of two recent works by Mexican sculptor Jordan Ultrilla depicting a native jaguar found in the Chiapan jungle. They are reminiscent of the clay jaguars produced by Juana Gomez Ramirez in Amatenango Chiapas but what makes this one unique is that it is perched on what appears to be natural tree branch. This sculpture like many others produced by Jordan Utrilla is made from a sustainable locally sourced hardwood called "Huanacastle". The dimensions are 58 cm in length, 60 cm in height and a thickness of 21 cm and weighs 10 Kg. This work has not previously been offered for sale. It comes with a certificate of origin
recent work, previously not available for sale

Jordan Utrilla Rojas has more than 24 years
of experience and is dedicated to the
elaboration of representational figures of
the state through the carving technique,
using as a base the wood of the tropical
tree called huanacaxtle. Jordan (Juan), from
Chiapa de Corzo, uses the wood because
the wood is more resistant for the carving it
makes and shows detail without damaging
the wood. Jordan (Juan) has carved the
jaguar warrior, indigenous people and
religious fgures. Jordan's (Juan"s) worshop
is called Artes Utrillas in Chiapa de Corzo in
Mexico. Huanacaxtle is guanacaste wood in
the Nahuatl language.
Thanks, Erich, you're set with both this and the other Utrilla Rojas jaguar carving.
By the way, the artist is from Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas. See a valuation of a pice I purchased earlier this year
