This is one of two recent pieces by locally famous Mexican sculptor Jordan Ultrilla depicting the native jaguars found in the Chiapan jungle. It is reminiscent of the clay jaguars produced by Juana Gomez Ramirez in Amatenango Chiapas. This sculpture like many others produced by Jordan Utrilla is made from a sustainable locally sourced hardwood called "Huanacastle". The dimensions are: 97cm in length by 45 cm in height and a thickness of 24 cm. This work has not previously been offered for sale. It comes with a certificate of origin

I attached additional photos of Jaguar and copies of recent award certificates received by artist for a new work called "El Paletero"
Jordan (Juan ) Utrilla Rojas has more than 24
years of experience and the pieces that he
carves are of the history of his life. His tools
are a hammer and a chisel. His carvings
take 3 to 4 months to complete, depending
on the size and shape to be made. His
workshop is in Chiapa de Corzo.
One, the only one recorded, of his
mahogany carvings and is of a much larger
size was estimated at $25,000.00, but sold
well below the estimated fgure at auction.
Here's some background on the artist:
Jordan Utrilla (Rojas) from Chiapas, Mexico, specializes in highly detailed wood sculptures of mostly local themes. His works are sold almost exclusively to an art dealer in Mexico City. His works are signed and always are presented with a Certificate of Authenticity. Works by the artist have not been previously offered in international auction market.
These are signed pieces. I will request photos as proof. As these items are so new the Certificates of Origin have yet to be produced.
I have other works however by this artist with certificates. I'd be happy to share more info about the artist if you can tell me where I can attach the documents.
