Japanese woodblock prints
(4) pieces all similar size (9 1/2" x 14" image size), paper a little larger, with tissue (tissues have printing on them), mint condition
purchased in Japan in mid 1940's (they think 1944/45) and then shipped to America in 1951.

Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with MeArto. The items presented appear to be color woodblocks by Masaharu Inoue (active mid 19th century). The prints are from the series titled Kōzan Shokubutsu Zufu (Picture Album of Alpine Plants), circa 1930s. The series consisted of 50 woodblocks of botanical flora.
Unfortunately, there is no definitive information regarding the artists. Apparently, Masaharu Inoue only produced two series of woodblocks in the mid 19th century.
The estimate provided applies to the collection of four prints and is based on auction estimates and results of prints from the series. However, retail or private sale prices may vary greatly.
Hello Brandice. The term "active mid 19th century" implies that the artist was most active during that time. Because there is no definitive information about the artist, it is hard to pin down exact dates. The term "circa" includes up to 15 years before or after the date attached.
I'm confused. If the artist was active in the mid 19th century how could these be circa 1930's?
