rug is 2 metres by 1.2 meters
left in a will in 1989
Dear Tracey,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a Kerman rug from Persia with the measurements of 2 x 1.2 meters. The Kerman shows the famous motif of the tree of life as the main motif combined with a Mihrab motif. This rug was probably made out of wool and cotton and was made in the second half of the 20th century.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 300 to 600 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear Tracey,
Thank you for your email. Sadly the market situation and the prices for rugs changed fundamentally since the 1980s. The actual situation and the market show that there is a massive change of the estimates and reached prices in the auction which always mirrors an actual market situation.
We adapt our estimations to actual and reached auction results of the last years. This process mirrors a comparative value and mirrors and actual market situation. This means also that an object should not just be adapted to the highest hammer prices and you also have to see the mid-range and low range hammer prices to define an adequate estimate.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hi George
I have found some details and in 1989 it was valued in the Uk at £2200. Are you a specialist?
