What does this mean?

Hello!

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal.

Considering the photos, this item is:

A Japanese traditional bridal Kimono usually worn in weddings, or Uchikake. This silk garment is normally composed by a red satin base with a matching hem which rails in the floor, whose main purpose is to prevent the hem of the clothing from clinging to the feet by making a thick part around the hem. The material is silk brocade which is why it is very heavy, but also one of the most luxurious kimonos.

This hand-made multi-colored uchikake is embroided with the traditional Shôchikubai motifs or symbols of longevity, fidelity, integrity and perseverance: various flowers and leaves as well as of cranes and pine trees (kusudama).

Period: around 20th Century - Shôwa period (circa 1926–1989)
Condition: Beautiful piece in overall very good and clean condition - especially clean inside, hem and sleeves.
Height and weight: Unknown.
Colour: red interior, motifs: white, gold, multicoloured.
Provenance: Unknown.
Artist: Unknown.
Estimated price: This piece has an estimated price of 450 – 550 $
