HI Sharon,
Happy to comment on my valuation and thank you for double-checking.
There are a lot of these rugs on the auction market at the moment, with supply outweighing demand. Nearly all sell for less than $1,000 unless the small side is 12 feet or longer. We do tend to err on the side of caution and value conservatively, not least to give you a false (inflated) sense of value.
Dark green is a very unpopular color (people generally favor light colors, or reds and blues) so that would be a factor as well.
The knots are too uniformly even to have been done by hand. Even the most expert weaver will have some variation - I see none of that in your photos (which are excellent by the way).
I hope I've answered your questions - please let me know if you have additional ones.
Thank you very much. I appreciate your expertise.
This rug is huge and very heavy. Its pile is very thick. It is carved in great detail on all the floral deco areas. It has a retail price tag on the item of more than $4,000.00. I know there are many different price ranges for rugs but just want to double check this very low appraisal. Are you able to explain why? Is it because you believe it is machine made? How do you know that?
