What does this mean?

This is a vintage 1948 color etching or print on paper depicting a group of ducks in flight that was published by Ducher et Cie in Paris, France. There is a platemark, or indent in the paper around the image indicating is indeed an original print. It is illegibly signed at the lower right margin in pencil and appears like "L. Ruis" however, this image published by Ducher is based on a work by Boris Riab aka Boris Riabouchinsky French/Russian, 1898-1975. Riab's signature on his original paintings is very distinct and does not match the signature in the margin of this print. However other Ducher published duck prints of works by Riab have similar illegibly signatures in the margin and it is more likely they were 'signed' by someone at Ducher and not by the artist himself. This is not uncommon. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
