Unlacquered Brass. Bell is 5-1/8 inches in diameter. No dents. Small nicks/pitting.
Unknown. Bought from dealer. Dealer says based on information in Langwill Index, believes dates from before 1873.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is a Matthäus Bauer rotary valve trumpet in Bb, manufactured in Vienna circa 1873. Composition is unlacquered brass and the bell is 5.125" in diameter. The piece has no serial number. A comparable Matthäus Bauer trumpet sold at auction in 2014 for approximately $700 USD without a mouthpiece. The piece appears both nicely constructed and well-kept but its value is impacted by the piece's intonation, valve originality and tightness, and repairs that may not be apparent in photographs.
