64"X72"
Dear Dean Bice,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is a mixed media painting on canvas by Michel Alexis (French/American, born 1960. ) It is an abstract, non-representational composition of an off-white ground with pen-like line work and color blocking. The work is signed and inscribed to the verso which titles it "June 16" and dates the work to 2000. According to information provided, there is a Stephen Haller Gallery label to the verso though it is not legible in the images. The work measures 64 x 72 inches and appears to be in good condition. Further condition notes are not visible based on the images provided.
Michel Alexis began his practice with sculptural explorations of plaster, heavily inspired by ancient ruins. After relocating from France to California, Alexis began transcribing his earlier practice onto large canvases in acrylic, ultimately developing the lyrically-abstract mixed media paintings he is know for today. While highly published and exhibited, Alexis does not have a long-term secondary market record. Despite a 2020 sale in which an Alexis painting sold over the estimate at $1500, multiple, more recent works by Alexis have either sold under the minimum estimate or passed entirely. Considering these trends, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $200 and $500.
Thank you for your appraisal submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
