2x Vases 28cm high, potters clay, porcelain.
The Vases were unwanted by my surviving Brother, and left to me. According to my Mother, the Vases were purchased in Melbourne by her Grandmother around the year 1930 for the price of -- pounds (au).
This is a pair of antique, late 19th century, about 1885 - 1890, late Meiji Period, Victorian era, 28cm tall vases from Japan. They are a ceramic clay or soft-paste pottery, not porcelain. The surface decoration of a temple ceremony, is done in hand applied raised enamel, which is known as 'moriage' and the faces are hand painted. These were generally made as decorative export ware. The damage on the one vase does impact value. The estimate is for the pair together and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
Any time is fine, no rush. I will need to see the undersides, even if unmarked.
Hi Nora, l discovered both are chipped on top.
I presume they are very old, as my Great Grandmother paid 80 pounds for them around 85 yrs ago. Being damaged has impact on their value and original condition :)
Thanks
Reg
