Mughal Painting
A large pre 1900 Moghul painting in a Muslin cotton fabric (27 inx19 in) 69 cmx 48cm depicting the MUGHAL SHIKARGAH image of 6 famous Moghul Emperors? “The Great Mughal imperial Hunt”?. The paint seems is of natural pigments and the gold colour faded with tiny dots of gold powder glittering in the surface. The cloth is faded and breaking down in many places due to aging. There is a number 935 written in one corner possibly an inventory for a record keeping. Also to emphasize that there is a clear evidence that this piece was previously secured only on the right side with 4 pin holes spacing equally divided. The other 3 parts are clear from any pin holes, indicating this piece was fixed by some sort of book binding process. With Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan built Jama Masjid in red sandstone bricks in the background portraying an impressive example of Islamic Architecture. The night Hunt and the 3 dimensional light effects of the moonlight landscape reminds us of Mir Kalam Khan atelier artworks.
