What does this mean?

Hi Amanda,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

That is the Noritake "Komaru" mark in use from circa 1908-the 1920s. Unfortunately, the company's pattern records were lost during WWII so unless the pattern is named on the piece (as they usually do now), it is impossible to identify it now.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An antique 28-piece Noritake silver-gilt porcelain dessert service for 6
unattributed pattern, made in Japan, bearing the Noritake "Komaru" mark in use from circa 1908-1920s, comprising:
1 cake plate (9 inches diameter)
12 dessert plates (6 inches diameter)
6 tea cups with 6 saucers
1 cream pitcher
2 sugar bowls
CONDITION: appears to be in good condition; value assumes no chips, break, repairs or losses.
PROVENANCE: inherited
£ 400-600 for the set*
