Noritake Tea Set for 6. My 92 year old father was given the set when he was a young man. It’s a setting for 6 — tea cups, small plates, creamer, sugar, teapot. Perfect condition.
Hi Lisa,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Noritake was one of the most popular names for dinnerware in the mid 20th Century; not only was it handsome and serviceable but it was also comparatively affordable. Increasingly few people today, however, entertain in such a formal way and the market is saturated with services of varying sizes, colors, etc. Because there is less demand than supply, fair-market / auction prices for Noritake remain low, typically bringing $4-8 PER PIECE but because your dessert service is intact and in such good condition, it warrants a much higher overall value. I would point out that these are NOT solid gold but gilding over porcelain. Also, the gilding shows evidence of some wear so not in perfect condition but perfectly acceptable for age and use.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage 21-piece Noritake parcel gilt porcelain dessert service for 6
unattributed stippled gilt pattern, made in Japan, bearing the Morimura "M" backstamp in use from the 1920s-1940s, comprising:
1 tea pot of hexagonal section
1 cream pitcher
1 covered sugar bowl
6 tea cups with 6 saucers
6 dessert plates
CONDITION: Intact full set.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 300-500 for the set*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Thanks for letting me know and YES, it does. I've updated this appraisal to reflect this.
The texture is part of the design and is consistent throughout. My father confirms the texture has always been part of the set since 1942 when he received it. There is absolutely no wear and tear on this set. Does this change the value?
