Dear Kenneth,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and my sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a Nambu Type 19 semi-automatic pistol made by North China Industries with an 8 mm Nambu caliber. This is an improvement on the Type 14 Nambu pistol design which was manufactured in very small numbers in Japanese-occupied China late in World War II. Two different types of these Nambu Type 19 pistols are known. The first type is well made with a bullseye style of final acceptance mark and one of very poor machining quality with a Japanese β2β character as final proof, presumably indicating second quality. Both types have different serial number ranges: The first type from 4 to 55 and the second from type from 004 to 093. This means this pistol belongs to the first type because it has serial number 22 market on the side beside the marks for "North China - 19".
This piece is in medium condition and there are rust stains the finish visible in the images provided. This sadly lowers the estimate.
A fair market estimation would be between 6.000 to 12.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
