I'm unsure of the type of wood used. I believe the seat may have been repaired at a later date. The cameos may have been added later as well.

A Colonial Revival oak, leather and brass embossed rocking slat-back side chair
first half 20th Century
With shaped crest over five slats affixed at the bottom with brass cameo bosses, between elongated turned stiles, the shaped seat with later red-leather upholstery, raised on four turned tapering legs joined by a box stretcher, all on rockers.
Overall height 41inches, greatest width (seat) 17 1/2 inches; depth of seat 16 inches
CONDITION: wear commensurate with age and use; leather a later replacement
