See Pictures :-)
13” x 15"
Hello Jonathan,
Thank you very much for submitting your item for an appraisal.
The presented objects appear to be a handsome pair of 19th Century American portraits of a man and woman (presumably husband and wife). Each painting measures 13 x 15 inches and while the frames are somewhat damaged, the oil on panel paintings themselves seem to be in good condition, based on the images provided.
Auction prices for similar items can go up to $1200, but I would estimate the current fair market value of this pair at between $400 to 800 USD, though retail and asking prices may vary.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know in the comments section below. Thank you again and I wish you all the best for this holiday season!
Kind regards,
Anne

Hello Jonathan,
My apologies for the delayed response. I've been away from my desk for the holidays.
The wax seal probably bears the crest of a family, either that of the two portrait sitters, or of a collector who once owned this set of portraits. I'm unfortunately not familiar with the crest, but I could refer you to our authentication team if you'd like us to research it further. You can reach them by email at: [email protected]
Thank you and all the best,
Anne
What does the wax shield on the back represent?
