Pine Antique Armoire with Antique French Doors purchased fifty years ago in San Francisco. Dimensions: 77h x 50w x 18.5d. Doors alone appraised at $1500 in 2010.
This an inherited item first purchased by my mother fifty years ago. Don't know anything else there are no markings that I can find.
Hi Daniel,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Now that I have photos of the interior, I can see that this isnt' tremendously old - its probably 20th Century whereas the door look like they have enough age that they could be late 19th Century, and the hinges are modern. The bracket base is also unusual for the form - I would expect to see short cabriole legs.
All that said, it's a very nice-looking piece of furniture, just one that isn't terribly old or particularly in vogue at the moment.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique French provincial carved walnut dome-top armoire
late 19th Century
Of rectangular section with outset molded arched cornice, the case fitted with paneled arched-top doors opening to a shelved interior, all on a bracket base.
77 inches high, 50 inches wide, 18 1/2 inches deep
CONDITION: probably made of associated parts, with doors appearing to be older than the case.
PROVENANCE: inherited
$800-1,200*

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
The additional photos are really useful, Daniel, thanks! You're all set.
I added some more photos. Not actually, I was told by mother before she died that doors had been appraised for $1500 fifteen years ago. I don't know why just the doors, possibly she was confused. The case and the doors, the entire unit was purchased as one piece so I assume all of it is the same age. I'm sorry, I don't have any more information and as I said could not find any printing on any part of the armoire.
