I am not sure about the type of wood used. Here are the dimensions: 39 1/2" H, 25" at the widest part which is the armrests, seat by itself not including the arms is 19" wide, seat is also exactly 19" Long, entire length of the chair is 31 1/2" which is the legs tip to tip. There is a faint stamp of MD on the middle bottom, along with black numbers/letters on the middle right bottom of the chair. Those are the only marks on the chair. I also have closeup pics of the hardware used.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A Colonial Revival style turned and pressed walnut rocking armchair
circa 1920s
Possibly later converted from a commode chair, the shaped pressed crest supported over 7 barley twist spindles flanked by turned and twisted stiles, over serpentine arms raised on turned spindles, the shaped seat with circular insert with brass tack trim, raised on turned circular legs joined by a double-H stretcher, on rockers.
39 1/2 inches high, 25 inches wide, length of rockers 31 1/2 inches
CONDITION: possibly later converted from a commode chair; wear appears to be commensurate with age and use.
