Good evening, Patrick,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. This is not quite as old as the early 1800s, at the earliest this is from the late 1800s or early 20th Century. I can tell from the way the wood is cut and attached that it is not done the way the really early pieces were done.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A Georgian style inlaid and veneered mahogany double-dome secretary bookcase
American or English, late 19th Century
In two sections, the upper section with two glazed cabinet doors opening to a (adjustable?) shelved interior, the lower section with a slant-lid opening to reveal a divided writing interior, over four long drawers, all on a bracket base.
overall height 75 inches, width 32 inches,depth 18 inches
PROVENANCE: inherited from mother
CONDITION: condition generally good, with wear commensurate with age and use
$500-800*
