Hi Vincent,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Roll top desks were much more popular in the 20th century particularly with the advent of computers with towers; and monitors. There seems to be a small resurgence in popularity now that everyone has tablets, laptops, etc but the market for these is still quite soft; it's unlikely that you'd recoup what you paid a dealer for it.
Are there any stamps, labels or inscriptions (often in a discrete place) that would identify the maker? It could make a difference in the value so if there are, please let me know and I'll reassess the valuation and adjust accordingly.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An Edwardian oak roll-top double-pedestal desk
English or American, late 19th/early 20th Century
The serpentine tambour lid opening to reveal a divided writing interior over a long drawer, raised on two stacks of short long drawers, all on bracket bases.
48 inches high, 48 inches wide, 42 inches deep
PROVENANCE: purchased from an antique dealer/gallery
